Apple Daycare Ltd has 5 settings: Dhoon (House) in Hertford, Newgate Street Hall in Hertford, Lemsford Hall in Welwyn Garden City, Oxlease House in Hatfield and Pavillion in Little Berkhamsted. 

Dhoon (Epping Green, Hertford) 

Dhoon was Apple Daycare's first setting and provides care from birth to 2.5 years age group.  

The house is managed by a fully qualified nursery nurse and is ably assisted by a group of experienced and caring practitioners ranging from apprentices to Level 3. Apple Daycare at Dhoon's main focus is to introduce babies and their parents to daycare.  The first few weeks and months are centred around creating positive relationships outside of the family unit. Apple Daycare staff do this by allowing the children to choose their own key worker, basically their favourite practitioner. The day is planned and focuses on child led play, punctuated with adult led activities such as story frog, painting and craft. Apple Daycare at Dhoon is surrounded by bridle paths so have access to woodland walks to the village of Little Berkhamsted, encouraging the children to walk as much as they can and for those unsteady on their feet there is always a pushchair or buggy to help with a ride. Each day the nursery reports your child's activities through its digital online learning journal where parents can see what their child did and this is accompanied by a few photographs and a vignette which describes how they are developing and significant moments. 

Newgate Street Hall (Newgate Street, Hertford)

Newgate Street Hall provides care for 2.5 years to 5 years age group.

Newgate Street Hall is a Pre-School, Full daycare, After School Club and Holiday Club. The nursery has become an incredible asset to the local community. Providing 2, 3 and 4 year old 15 and 30 hours funded care plus full daycare. When the space became available, Newgate Street Hall incorporated this as a Holiday Club, to provide continuity of care for those children who had left Apple and gone to school. However, it very quickly became the epicentre of the Apple Daycare vision. Newgate Steet Hall now provides care all year around and explores an enormous variety of activities for the children to experience daily. Each day there are visiting teachers and coaches who lay on activities such as: Tennis, Karate, Yoga and Circus School. Newgate Street Hall have access to incredible facilities for an Early Years setting, including tennis courts, playing fields, the park, not to mention the huge indoor space the hall offers, so they are unrestricted by mother nature all year around. Newgate Street is managed by a fully qualified L4 Early years educator. She is ably assisted by a L6 Preschool teacher, L3 L2 practitioners and apprentices training for L2 and L3. There are two house chefs who prepare a variety of fresh home cooked meals each day and many baking activities with the children. The teachers provide learning plans for the children individually which extends the learning for those excelling in the younger age groups and for those due to graduate to school at the end of their time at Apple and for those with Specific Educational Needs. Newgate Street Hall embraces diversity and recognise the benefit for the whole community to live, learn and play together.

Lemsford Hall (Brocket Road, Hatfield)

Lemsford Hall provides care from birth to 5 years age group.

Apple Daycare at Lemsford Hall is set on the recreation ground in the quiet village of Lemsford just before Brocket Hall on the road between Welwyn Garden City and St Albans.  As well as the recreation ground and play area, Lemsford Hall has access to many woodland walks and daily rambles over the Brocket Hall estate. The setting is surrounded by open fields with a small courtyard private garden.  There is ample parking so very easy to drop and collect. Lemsford Hall is managed by a fully qualified L3 early years educator and she is ably assisted by L3 and L2 practitioners with SEN, Matakon and sign experience, apprentice’s, studying for L2. The house chef prepares a variety of fresh home cooked meals each day and many baking activities with the children. The main focus at Lemsford Hall is to promote the early years foundation stage. Lemsford Hall uses tracking and planning software to create a bespoke learning experience for your child. The day is planned and focuses on child led play, punctuated with adult led activities such as story frog, painting and craft. The nursery conduct forest school adventure walks along the many footpaths surrounding the site. Lemsford Hall encourage the children to walk as much as they can and for those unsteady on their feet there is always a pushchair or buggy to help with a ride. Each day they report your child's activities through our digital online learning journal where you will see what they did and when and it will be accompanied by a few photographs and a vignette which describes a significant moment as well as general preschool activities. Lemsford Hall work with Best Theatre Company for drama skills, Little Club for street dance and sensory music sessions, impact sports and Super Star Sports offer a wide variety of sporting activities. The nursery also celebrates many different cultural events throughout the year.

Oxlease House (Traveller's Lane, Hatfield)

Oxlease House provides care from birth to 5 years age group.

Oxlease House is a Nursery, Pre-School, After School Club & Holiday Club. Apple Daycare at Oxlease House is set just in front of Oxlease nature reserve and playing fields. Oxlease House is surrounded by its own private garden. The nursery is managed by a fully qualified L7 early years educator and she is ably assisted by L3 practitioners  and has a L4 and SEN leader with Makaton and sign experience. The house chef prepares a variety of fresh home cooked meals each day and many baking activities with the children. Oxlease House promotes the early years foundation stage and also uses tracking and planning software to create a bespoke learning experience for your child. The day is planned and focuses on child led play, punctuated with adult led activities. The nursery conducts woodland walks to the nature reserve at the back of Oxlease House. They encourage the children to walk as much as they can and there is always a pushchair or buggy to help with a ride. Each day Oxlease House report your child's activities through their digital online learning journal accompanied by a few photographs and a vignette which describes a significant moments and development observations. Oxlease House also works with Best Theatre Company for drama skills, Little Club for street dance and sensory music sessions, impact sports and Super Star Sports offer a wide variety of sporting activities. Oxlease House also celebrate many different cultural events throughout the year.

Pavillion (Little Berkhamsted)

Is a summer facility used as a transition experience for children who are due to move from Dhoon House to Newgate street in the Autumn term. It is the destination for our adventure walk from the house and a forest school classroom experience.

General information

Our sites are open from 07:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday and are open all year round, except for Bank Holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year. Dhoon House is open Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 6.30pm.  All the sites run to a similar daily routine with as much outdoor time as possible, promoting forest education. Each site has its own Manager and team of staff and offer extra activities such as sports coaches, drama and dance teachers which are included in the fees (excluding Horse riding, for which there is a small additional charge).

All food is freshly prepared from scratch and is age appropriate.
