Boys Pre-Prep & Prep School
The Pre-Preparatory Department is a happy, purposeful and friendly place for boys aged 4-7 years. We have nine small classes, with three parallel classes in each year group. At the age of 7, boys move into Year 3 at the Prep School. Our beautiful, stimulating grounds in Hertfordshire and well-structured curriculum provide an environment for our boys to flourish both socially and academically in our boys pre-prep school.
We encourage self-expression linked to self-discipline, as well as a caring attitude and respect for others. We recognise the importance of a boy’s early steps into education and focus on instilling a love of learning. We aim to inspire and build confidence in a caring and secure environment. A co-operative partnership between home and school is vital in building a firm foundation for the success of all boys.
Boys move from the Pre-Prep into our boys Prep School, Hertfordshire at the end of Year 2. In Years 3 – 5 the boys are in small classes with a Form Teacher who looks after their pastoral care as well as teaches them for the majority of their lessons. Specialist teaching in a wide range of subjects starts from Year 5 with the younger years enjoying subjects such as art, music and PE with the specialist teacher. From Year 6 the boys are placed with a Tutor who will monitor a boy's pastoral and academic progress for his remaining years at the school. Boys stay at Aldwickbury for Year 7 and 8 where they flourish as independent learners and take on positions of leadership with the School community.
We believe that all boys should feel secure, cared for and respected. Such an atmosphere is essential to ensure that boys are in the best frame of mind to learn and make academic progress. The curriculum we offer is broad, varied, well-balanced and challenging. It encompasses academic lessons, and is supplemented by the creative arts as well as physical activities. It also includes a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities that the school offers in order to enrich the experience of the boys.
Our aim is for boys to leave as confident and independent thinkers, equipped for their next school and the rapidly changing world that faces them beyond that.
