The Cottage Guest House4 star guest house

A homely feel

The Cottage prides itself on offering comfortable accommodation and making sure guests feel welcome. Based in the village of Birchanger, the Cottage lies between a large ancient wood and the farmland of the peaceful Stort Valley. It is a quiet village although it is near Stansted Airport and access routes to the M1 & M25. The Cottage dates from the 17th century and from 1720 was home to the rector of Birchanger the Reverend Joseph Spence who was Oxford Professor of Poetry and a close friend of Alexander Pope. It is a Listed Building set in two acres of mature gardens overlooking fields and woods. The comfortable reception rooms are oak panelled and full of character, the larger of the two sitting rooms has a wood-burning stove. Breakfast is served in the conservatory-style dining room, facing east over the lawns and yew hedges, which can be bathed in sunshine during breakfast. There is ample off road parking.

There are 14 bedrooms ranging from single, double and twin en-suite. The guest rooms are furnished in a traditional cottage style and have: en-suite shower, basin, w.c, colour TV, Wi-Fi, tea/coffee facilities, room controlled heating and tourist information. Pub with good food near by
